Import tax for shipping online orders from Asia to Canada?
I am planning to order a product from an online store located in Hongkong. But I’m not sure if I’m going to be charged with any import tax or other additional fees when shipping to Canada. I live in Ottawa, and the product is a toy. It’s about the size of a water bottle and won’t be too heavy, it’s about 100 Canadian dollars.
You will for sure be charged PST and GST, and a small amount for the shipper to clear customs.
As to whether you will be charged duty depends on the country of manufacture (not origin) and the tariff. Most toys are free of duty, except wheeled toys.
Note that importing toy weapons is illegal and they will be confiscated at the border.
