I can’t find any treats or toys my dog will want to play with! HELP!?
I just picked up Lady from a rescue, she is a 5 year old beagle. The only treat she seems to like so far is duck and peanut butter. I’ve already tried giving her dog biscuits, chicken treats and “filet mignon” flavored treats. I also bought her one of those Kong toys and stuffed it with peanut butter and she still won’t bother to turn her head! I’ve also tried playing fetch with a tennis ball and after awhile she lost interest. I also got her a plush toy but she’s still not showing much interest in that. I really don’t want to spend too much more money experimenting because toys and treats are expensive and I need something that will work when I am away to keep her occupied. HELP!
Give Lady a bit more time to get comfortable. She just came from a stressful situation, and needs some time to adjust.
Keep the toys to a minimum… leave a few out at a time, and hide the rest away. Rotate them periodically. If she’s got 20 toys out at all times, she’ll get bored more quickly. But if she only has a select few, that get rotated with “new” ones every once in a while, she’ll show more interest.
My dog isn’t a huge fan of peanut butter. I find that stuffing a chunk of beef or chicken tightly into his Kong keeps his attention for a lot longer!
She’d probably love to take some walks or jogs with you, out and about in her new neighbourhood! But like I said, she’s probably a little nervous and completely overwhelmed with all of the love she’s getting, just give her a little more time to adjust.

Add: If you can take her for a good walk or job before you leave for work, it will wear her out and she’ll probably sleep the whole time that you are gone! I do this with my puppy, and all I leave him is a bully stick (these are great chew things, she’d probably love them) and a Kong stuffed with a chunk of meat. I know he’s had a good day when the bully stick is half eaten, the Kong is empty, and he’s passed out in his crate when I get home from work!
