Diaper bags have long since become a necessary item for every new mom. You will usually find them on the gift registry for every baby shower you attend. Backpack diaper bags, in particular, make life a lot easier.
When diaper bags first came out, they were quite simple. Usually, they had just one big compartment to put the diapers and maybe, if you were lucky, a couple of small pockets. They were carried over one shoulder and you had to fight with them as they came sliding down while you had your baby in your arms.

Diaper bags that are made to be backpacks have corrected a lot of these problems. They are much better for your body, as the weight is distributed evenly. You are able to put what you are carrying out of the way of baby and your hands are left completely free which is a benefit even if you are pushing a stroller. If an emergency happens, you are better able to handle it.
They also come with lots of pockets so it is much easier to arrange everything so that it is easy to find. Powder, ointment, wipes and whatever other things you are carrying can have their own place. There are a variety of sizes available so you can get one big enough to put other things in it as well, if you so desire. If you are going out for the day and want to take a book, a camera, sunscreen, etc. There is no need to take along yet another bag.
A wide variety of styles are made also. You can get just a basic backpack if that is your preference. Or, you can get something that is more of the designer diaper bag variety. There are some that will convert into a shoulder bag as well if you want the option or cannot decide which is best.
